Is CBD Oil Good for Nausea?

Nausea is one of the most unpleasant conditions in existence, affecting us both inside and out. A real plague of the modern era, nausea can be caused by a multitude of mental or physical factors. Despite it being so common, nausea is not that well “explored” by modern medicine, as much of its aspects are still a big unknown. Although there are many conventional treatment options, a number of people find them detrimental or ineffective, thus turning to CBD.

Reasons for nausea

Nausea is a defensive reaction by the body. Other reasons for nausea besides stress and anxiety are food poisoning, motion-sickness, chemotherapy, intense pain, infections, overeating, a reaction to smells, medication-induced vomiting, concussion and many more. Nausea and vomiting are often harmless and pass quickly but they can also indicate a more serious underlying condition. When nausea is not just temporary but chronic, it can be life-threatening.

Why use CDB oil for nausea?

In the today’s time, CBD is still a big unknown to most of us, as not enough research has been conducted to consider it a compulsory supplement. Nausea falls under this category as well. Near the end of the 20th century, scientists have been doing research on humans and have made some interesting findings in the process. The most significant would be that the digestive tract is constantly regulated by the endocannabinoid system or ECS. It consists of a chain of receptors that are connected to the organs. When healthy, there is a substantial amount of cannabinoids in our body, aiding in the normal functioning of your digestion.

This discovery means that there is place for speculation concerning the introduction of cannabinoids synthesized from the natural resources. Amongst these cannabinoids, CBD has become the most prominent ones, in terms of theories, speculation and pondering. Unlike THC, it doesn’t necessarily bind to the CB-1 and CB-2 receptors, important parts of endocannabinoid system. Additionally, there are indications that these two receptors are chief “culprits” that causes nausea and vomiting. The unpleasant urge to vomit often occurs when certain enzymes bind to the receptors and block their normal functioning.

One common cause of nausea is chemotherapy. Bombarding one’s body with strong medication causes great misbalance to the sensitive endocannabinoid system. This is due to the unnatural compounds disrupting the normal functioning of the ECS, which is the main regulator of our appetite, feeling of fullness. When homeostasis ceases to exist, the organism goes into chaos mode.
Many people who suffer from nausea do not respond well to pharmacological drugs due to their side effects, the danger of combining them with other treatments and their inefficiency. This is mostly due to the fact that conventional medications have side-effects on other parts of the body. Additionally, most of these standardized solutions have to be taken regularly, as the nausea may return after the regular dosage ceases.

What is the best way to take CBD oil for nausea?

CBD can be ingested in many different ways. A vape pen may be a good option because it uses high temperatures to turn the oil into vapor. By inhaling the vapor, it quickly reaches your nasal cavities, where it gets absorbed by the blood vessels almost instantly. You may feel the effects after a few minutes and notice them for the next several hours.

Applying CBD under the tongue (sublingual application) is another great way to administer CBD oil. Like the nasal cavities, the sublingual area contains a multitude of exposed blood vessels, allowing for quick absorption. Drops and tinctures are popular because dosage can be easily measured, offering consistency when dosing.

Capsules also offer a way to dose consistently but they take longer to work. They are preferred by those who want a tasteless method of dosing.

CBD edibles take longest to work and the effects are usually only felt after about 30 minutes. The good thing about this is the effects usually last longer because of the slow way they are absorbed into the bloodstream. The CBD oils extracted from different plants may feel different or even taste different.

You also need to look for high standards and quality when you compare CBD oil products. Where crops are grown and how oils are extracted influences the quality of products. Certain products available online, for instance, have found to contain little or no CBD when subjected to testing.

What is the right dosage?

According to several studies conducted on human test subjects, it is impossible to overdose on CBD. A lethal dose simply doesn’t exist nor can it in any way disrupt the normal functioning of your organism. However, the correct dosage depends on many factors.

Height, weight, age and general health have a lot to do with how your body will receive the oil. The great thing about CBD oil is that you can use it according to your own estimate. If you’re only starting, have a trial period the first few days where you experiment with different doses and how they work.

For example: you can take several small doses during the day than one large dose. Or you can use the same dose for several days, observe the effects and adjust the amount if necessary.  Don’t overdo it – you won’t overdose but an excessive amount could be less effective. Small doses stimulate but large doses can sedate. Finding the ideal measure and method of ingestion takes some time, don’t worry.

Another factor to consider is the ratio of CBD to THC in a product. If you have drug tests at work, don’t risk buying a product that has more than 0.3% THC in it. Drug tests test for THC, not CBD. If your oil has only CBD or just a small amount of THC in it, you will be safe and won’t have to worry about the consequences.

The use of CBD oil requires further study, so everything you do is purely based on empirical evidence and trials on yourself. For those who are sensitive to pharmacological drugs and have bad side effects, it’s certainly an option worth exploring. And most importantly, approach every treatment responsibly and know your body and how it reacts.
